Cricket on Ice 2020 tournament report

Debutants Gipsies & Nomads XI won the 2020 Cricket on Ice Trophy, beating reigning champions Old Cholmeleians XI by 8 wickets in Saturday afternoon's conclusion to this year's tournament on the lake in St Moritz.

The finally, the fourth team that will compete for the Cricket On Ice Trophy in 2020 are our St Moritz neighbours, the Lyceum Alpinum XI from Zuoz.
The Lyceum Alpinum is a private & boarding school just 25 kilometres along the valley from St Moritz in Zuoz. The cricket XI is made up predominantly of students from the school, but also include school-masters, cricket coaches and Old Boys of the school.
Introducing Gipsies & Nomads XI

The third club in our series of introductions to teams that will compete for the Cricket On Ice Trophy in 2020 are debutants Gipsies & Nomads XI.
Cricketers from Nomads CC (London), Glos Gipsies CC (Glouces), Menorca CC (Spain), Romany CC (London) & Amigos CC (Portugal) merge as one team as Gipsies & Nomads X1 to contend for the Cricket on Ice 2020 Trophy.
This is their first year competing in this very prestigious event and they look forward to a great tournament playing in the spirit of the game and making new friends.

The second team in our series of introductions of teams that will compete in the Cricket On Ice Trophy 2020 are the retaining champions, the Old Cholmeleians XI.
An Old Cholmeleians XI have been regular guests at Cricket on Ice since 1995.
The Old Cholmeleians are old boys of Highgate School, a private school situated in North London. Highgate pupils excel academically & in sport and there are many famous ex-pupils that include judges, solicitors, politicians, pop singers, ex-professional cricketer (including Phil `Tuffers` Tufnell) and athletes.
Introducing St Moritz Cricket Club

We begin our introduction of the participating teams that will compete for the Cricket On Ice Trophy in 2020 with the tournament hosts, St Moritz Cricket Club.
St Moritz Cricket Club are your hosts for the most prestigious & unique event in the Swiss cricketing calendar, the Cricket on Ice Trophy #COI.
St Moritz (strictly by invitation only) are a conglomeration of friends & guests of Cricket on Ice.
SMCC draw their guests from across Switzerland & the world. Over the years the team has included some famous current & ex-international cricketers, Swiss & foreign dignitaries, players from the Swiss cricketing community & friends of the President.

The teams that will compete in the three-day Twenty20 format Cricket On Ice Trophy are St Moritz Cricket Club (hosts), Old Cholmeleians (Highgate, London), Lyceum Alpinum (Zuoz) & Gipsies & Nomads XI (UK).
Between now and next February (13th-15th February 2020) we will introduce old & new faces in a series of short articles on our website & social media pages as we build up to the competition.

The match schedule for Cricket On Ice 2020 has been announced. As is traditional, the trophy holders Old Cholmeleians will start the tournament, this year against the hosts, St Moritz
Cricket Club.
St Moritz Cricket Club will also play the last match against neighbours from just down the valley, Lyceum Alpinum.

The team of officials for this year's event are made up of four umpires - Peter de Boeck (B), Onesimus Koilraj (CH), Alex Mackay (CH) & Mark Williams (UK) - & scorers: Mirian Lodge (CH), Johnny Whitcombe (OCs) & Nigel Green (G&Ns).

The tournament gala dinner will once again be hosted by Hotel Steffani in St Moritz Dorf (Via Traunter plazzas 6, 7500 St. Moritz - tel. 081 836 96

The evening begins with an apéro from 7pm after which guests will be invited to be seated for a delightful four-course meal created by the the Hotel Steffani kitchen staff.

The Cricket On Ice chosen charity in 2020 is once again the Krebsliga Schweiz.
During the course of the event we will ask for donations for the Swiss League against Cancer (Krebsliga Schweiz) as we intend to raise money for this charity and make a donation in the name of our late friend & colleague Peter Märky.

ECN at COI 2020
(St Moritz, 20th October 2019)
We are very pleased to announce that the European cricket Network (ECN) will again be at every match of Cricket On Ice to catch all the action.
In addition to wicket-cams and cameras around the boundary, both umpires wear cameras so as to ensure all the shots, wickets and decisions on the field are caught on camera and broadcast live on the ECN Facebook channel.

4 teams will participate in this 3-day T20 competition for the honour of lifting the prestigious trophy.
