At the Cricket on Ice Trophy 2025 we welcome Mr John Moore to the team of officials. We asked John to share a few words of introduction with us, and are very happy to
introduce him to the wider Cricket on Ice community in this article.
John has been playing and Umpiring Senior cricket since 1956, when he started with Darraweit Guim a local country team where he lived in Victoria, Australia.
Playing cricket in the Victorian country, where he farmed until 2005, then sold the farm to retire to Melbourne.
In 2008 he discovered Over 60’s Cricket which renewed his enthusiasm for cricket.
In the past 17 years he has played over 700 games of Veteran’s Cricket and officiated as both scorer and official umpire in the many of those games.
Since travelling with Exotic Cricket Tours, he has been invited to umpire in many countries, with the highlight being an Official umpire at the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival USA in 2016.
As an Official Veterans Umpire, John has also umpired in Veterans games in UK, South Africa, China, Japan, Iceland, USA, South America, Samoa, Vanuatu.
His philosophy about umpires, is that if you are unable to play cricket, you umpire. That is why as a 78-year-old he is still playing cricket and umpiring.
He is looking forward to being part of the umpiring team at “Cricket On Ice” in February 2025.
You can meet John at Cricket on Ice 2025 (12-15.2.2025).
