As this year's debutantes, little is known of the team, a totally unknown quantity, so we asked Daniel Thomas to tell is a bit about them!
The Gentlemen Gardeners XI were formed in 2008 after an ad-hoc team of bowlers at winter nets at the Lancashire CCC indoor school decided to take their ‘skills’ into the outdoors. The Club has
only one rule: “The number of games played should never exceed the number of Club dinners”.
Chiefly comprised of commercial fraud barristers from Lincoln House Chambers in
Manchester, we now have journalists, students and a War Crimes Prosecutor in our ranks.
The touring party to St. Moritz will include two Queen’s Counsel, an ex-Glamorgan all-rounder (and current coach of the Bar of England & Wales Lawyers World Cup team) and some very unfit old
men.
The origins of the club name remain a closely guarded secret amongst the eight founder members. Our patron is HHJ Goddard QC (who proudly proclaims her appointment in Who’s Who). Club colours
(owing to a mix up at the suppliers) are baby blue and hot pink.
