Debutants AID UK CC won the 2022 Cricket on Ice Trophy, beating Penguins CC & Touring Cavaliers into joint joint second place on net run rate.
St Moritz CC, Old Cholmeleians XI & Lyceum Alpinum CC shared last spot.
After a one year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2022 Cricket on Ice Trophy was bigger & better than ever with six teams competing from Thursday 17th - Saturday 19th February 2022.
Day One (Thursday 17th February)
The tournament began in surprisingly warm conditions of plus 3 degrees and and even more surprising nine wicket victory for the Touring Cavaliers over hardened Cricket on Ice regulars, Old Cholmeleians. Touring Cavaliers captain Bill Johnson (4.0-0-11-3) led the way with three wickets in the first innings, but left it to Paul Marshall (23*) & Jason Caunt (20) to knock off the runs with the loss of just one wicket.
In the second game, AID UK CC had an equally easy time against the hosts St Moritz, with an eight wicket victory on the rather trickier pitch 2.
Six ducks by St Moritz CC in the first innings followed by a further two in the second told the story. AID UK CC bowlers Vipul V (2.4-0-9-3 ) & Naveen N (2.0-1-4-3) had a rather easier time
of it than the batsman, sharing the best of the bowling figures in the second match.
And in the final game of day one Penguns XI scored 130 against the students of the Lyceum Alpinum, Jonathan Wilkes-Green (34) leading the way with the day's top individual score.
In reply the Lyceum Alpinum started well but waned towards the end, scoring 74 to hand the Penguins a 58 run victory, Matt Simmond's also taking three wickets (3.0-0-8-3).
Day Two (Friday 18th February)
The second day of the tournament proved to more challenging from a weather perspective with a freezing Maloja wind blowing through the valley for most of the day.
The first game resulted in another win for Pengiuns XI and a second defeat for the hosts. However, this match proved to be a much closer contested affair than the first day and one of the best
matches of this year's tournament.
Penguins set St Moritz a total of 135 for the loss of 5 wickets. Penguin openers Luke Thorne (22) and James Gordon (29) setting up the innings, despite the best efforts of St Moritz's leading
bowler Chris Southwell (4.0-1-20-2).
In reply, St Moritz openers Prafull Shikare (26) & Kersley Corder (22) started equally well, but despite the best unbeaten efforts of Gnanasekaran Thoppae (13*) & Chris Southwell (37*)
they fell 13 runs short in their allotted 20 overs
The Touring Cavaliers also recorded their second victory of the tournament on pitch two with 56 run victory over Lyceum Alpinum. The Touring cavaliers scored 144-6 dismissing the school for 88 all out in 14.2 overs.
The last game on day two also resulted in a second win for AID UK CC and a second loss for Old Cholmeleians.
The Old Cholmeleians XI scored 131-6, Zak Khalique (35) leading the Old Cholmeleians effort with the bat. But it wasn't enough, as AID UK CC scored 132-2, despite Naveen N. (48) retiring just
short of a half-century, reaching the total with the loss of just two wickets and with 5 balls to spare.
Day Three (Saturday 19th February)
The third and final day of the tournament begain with a 34 runs win for Touring Cavaliers. Despite Chris Soutwell's best efforts with the ball (4.0-0-12-2) and the bat (31), Paul Marshall (63) and Jason Caunt (31) steered the Touring Cavaliers to their third victory from 3 games.
In the second game of the day AID UK scored a massive 190-6, Naveen N (24), an unbeaten Vipin V (40*) and Sandeep 66, all performing well with the bat. In reply the Lyceum Alpinum scored 94ao, 96 runs short of the total, Dea Schmidt (32) the only batter to put up any resistance against the Cricket on Ice Trophy 2022 winners.
And in the final match of the tournament Penguins made light work of the 98-6 set by Old Cholmeleians (Sam Khalique 16, Mani Khalique 12, John Bramhall 26*) as they reached the total in just 10.1 overs, scoring 101-5 (Jonty Edwards 20, Richard Thson 43) to win by 5 wickets.
In 2022 St Moritz CC, Lyceum Alpinum XI, Touring Cavaliers XI, Old Cholmeleians XI, AID UK CC & Penguins XI played nine T20 cricket matches over 3 days to ascertain the winners of the Cricket on Ice Trophy.

The catering tent, run by Alard Vermeulen & Christa Zwicky, was located next to the cricket pitches and served warm lunches to the players and officials and ran an all day bar serving
drinks (beer, wine, tea and soft drinks).
Ar the Tournament Gala Dinner that took place at the Hotel Steffani, the Player of the Tournament went to Jason Caunt (Touring Cavaliers), the champagne moment to Lawrence Yin (Lyceum Alpinum), the Golden Duck to Pete Veal (St Moritz) and AID UK CC were awarded the Cricket on Ice Trophy.
